Fix an existing StonePi

Pick the case that matches. Start at the top: each one is a bigger step than the last.

StonePi opens, but something isn't working

Use the Recovery Console on the Pi. It keeps running when the Dashboard or sign-in is down, and lets you restart services, read logs and restore a backup. You need to be on your home network.

Sign in as stonepi with the Recovery password from Dashboard → Settings → Vault (STONEPI_RECOVER_PASSWORD). On the Pi it's also in /etc/stonepi/recover.passwd. The Recovery Console ships with StonePi 0.1.8 and later.

Apps are broken after an update

Reapply the StonePi install. Your household data, users, settings and Vault are kept.

Connect to the Pi (ssh you@stonepi.local) and run:

curl -fsSL https://stonepi-install.vercel.app/install.sh | sudo bash -s -- --reinstall

The SD card failed or the Pi won't start

You'll need a StonePi backup on a USB drive labelled STONEPI-BACKUP.

  1. Set up a new card by following Install StonePi. Use the same hostname as before.
  2. Plug the STONEPI-BACKUP drive into the Pi.
  3. Open the Recovery Console, choose Restore, and pick the newest USB snapshot.
  4. Reboot when it finishes, then sign in as usual.

No USB backup? A local backup lives on the SD card itself, so it can't bring back a card that has failed. Once you're running again, plug in a STONEPI-BACKUP drive; StonePi backs up to it automatically.
